there is a difference. part of the philosophy of president obama is trying to get as many americans as possible dependent on government so that the democrats can stay in power in perpetuity. the reason i think that is failing is, even those americans, if you break down that 47%, there is a significant chunk of people, receiving social security, who have paid into it their entire life. that is very different from being dependent on welfare. that is a critical safety net our society has counted on that we need to insure remain strong for generations to come. even those who are receiving welfare right now, most americans do not want to stay dependent on government. they want to work for the american dream. they want to work to provide for themselves and their families. i think that is why the obama administration's objective is essentially using bread and circuses to make as many people as possible dependent on government, to keep voting democratic, is not succeeding. americans want to stand on their own feet. >> that is the craziest thing i ever heard of my life. you are accusing the president of

august. the obama and romney campaign jumped on these figures and, of course, they came down on opposite sides. cnn political editor paul steinhauser joining us this morning. good morning, paul. so there's one month, hard to believe, till election day, and no issue bigger than jobs, right? >> no doubt about that, randi, and you're right. after what you could consider a tough week for the president coming out of that debate in denver the jobs numbers are a good sign for his re-election bid, a happy sign for the re-election team, but for mitt romney this is fascinating, landi, because the unemployment rate is below 8% for the first time since barack obama came into the white house back in january of 2009. you have heard mitt romney on the campaign trail over and over again, over the last year and a half running for the white house, criticize this president on jobs for the unemployment rate being over 8%. now it is under 8%. now it's time for mr. romney to have to pivot from his favorite line. take a listen to both candidates on the campaign trail yesterday reacting to the jobs numbers. >>

romney hunkered down in washington on final debate preparation and president obama on the campaign trail in the swing state of nevada. for now, the strong sense of optimism from team romney. vice-presidential nominee, congressman paul ryan in an interesting brushed aside polls showing president obama leading in several key state telling anchor chris wallace, governor romney will win come november. and one of his most outspoken supporters, new jersey governor chris christie, also making a bold prediction that governor romney will do very well and his performance could change the whole race. here is governor christy from earlier today. >> he's going to come in wednesday night and have his vision for america and he's to contrast what his view is and the president's record is and the president's view for the future and the race will be turned upside down thursday morning. >> harris: we'll kick off our coverage with campaign carl cameron. and republicans are trying to draw a distinction betweening mr. obama and the republicans leading up to wednesday night. >> they have and mitt romney has be

will not be able to sneeze. if obama gets reelected, the latinos will be more inclined to push him harder than the black community. the latino community is more diverse. they are more inclined to push marco rubio that people from the dominican republic and when it comes to issues of immigration. they will be more inclined to stand on their platforms. the other aspect is i think african-americans will be less likely to push back on a history maker, and one of the pockets of opportunity for black people is we need to push the history maker to be historic a little bit more for us of the the next four years. we are intended to do that because you go from slavery to the first black president. it has only been 150 years. think about the journey to go from slavery to the leader of the free world within 150 years. we are only 50 years away from jim crow. i think we probably need to push this president if he gets elected. >> we have pushed from the inside more from the outside. in another four years i think we would tend to push from the outside. >> in another four years or the next four years? >> the

. i was very supportive of both president bush and president obama in afghanistan, mainly because of the hope we can turn around what happens to women. we have the same problem we had in vietnam. when you're working with a corrupt government, people can't work to save themselves, you can't save them no matter what. we need to get out. >> the fight against al qaeda continues not only in afghanistan, but increasingly in north africa. the "washington post" is reporting the white house has held secret meetings to examine the terror group in the region. the al qaeda affiliate there is believed to have gained a large amount of weapons after the revolution in libya. and according to "the post," the white house meetings predate the attacks on the u.s. compound in libya and have included possible strikes against targets in north africa. i think it'll be interesting to hear how these issues are played out in one of the debates, which i believe is focused on foreign policy. i just want the candidates to be asked about this. >> there's also, mika, a front page in the "new york times" that eve
